Jack & the Jackal

I wrote the following poem many years ago and I decided to re-work the illustrations a couple of years back when I was being mentored by Lynne Chapman, (the children's book author and illustrator who illustrated Giddy the Great.) The sketches show the transition that the drawings went through to get to the finished illustrations.

Balancing Bill

These illustration are for a poem I wrote called Balancing Bill. I loved doing the detail in the background of this first image. I drew the character and main aspects of the image freehand and scanned them in. However I did all the background in Photoshop using my tablet pen.

Tommy 10 trumps

These are illustrations for a, ten verse long, poem that I wrote. As the title might suggest it's about a little boy called Tommy who does ten trumps a day. No more and no less! The poem follows him through his day and each verse explains how the trumps are produced....no really!

I tried this particular poem out on a class of 6 to 7 year olds at Sheffield High School. They seemed to find it hilarious and even came up with some alternative situations that Tommy might produce other gaseous excretions! One pupil that I bumped into a couple of years later even remembered the poem and recited a few lines to me! Needless to say, I was touched!!!

Veronica Pain

These were two illustrations that I did for a poem that I wrote called Veronica Pain. I drew them freehand, scanned them into my Mac and enhanced them using Photoshop.
